Choy Lay Fut

Cailifo/ choy lay fut/ Choy li fut/ Cai, Li, Buddha

Style created by Chen Heng in the 19th century in Guangdong province. His teacher was his uncle Chen Yuanhu, monks Caifu and Li Youshan (the name of that style comes from the name of his masters: Cai-Li, then he added Fo for Buddha as a sign of religious respect).

This style has 2 main substyles:

Hongsheng Cailifo, from Cheng Heng

Beisheng Cailifo, from Tan San (early 1900's) who has been influenced by Gu Ruzhang from Bei Shaolin quan.

The main features of Cailifo are: the use of hips, the use of the arms as a balance, many "whipped" techniques and also the richness of techniques, barehanded or with weapons.
